There are 340 000 visually impaired people in the Netherlands, of which over more than 4 000 people are blind and 8 000 are deaf blind. Worldwide there are more than 161 million people who are visually impaired, of which 37 million people are blind. This number increases every year.
Every human being should be able to develop one’s talents, so that he / she can lead a satisfying life and is a full member of our society. Unfortunately, visually impaired people do not have the same opportunties as sighted people.
To make daily life easier, many visually impaired people use a white stick. This stick was introduced over 70 years ago and was then an impressive tool that added to the independence of the visually impaired. It is however amazing that – while the rest of the world has turned into a global village because of enormous innovative technologies - the visually impaired still us the same white stick as 70 years ago!
The I-Cane will be the first intelligent white stick in the world and is a break through for the way in which visually impaired people will be able to lead their daily life.
With your contribution you will add to the improvement of the mobility and independence of people who are visually impaired.
